Monday

On Sunday, I had the privilege of witnessing Lynn's baptism. I was glad to see her publicly commit her life to the LORD and profess her faith. Her testimony was great and her chinese, just as great. There were at least 3 成语 used. I enjoyed attending her church service whose worship sounds like a choir... sonorous, it rings with voices harmonising of the joy from deep within. It is also through singing in Chinese that I realised then, how rich the Chinese language is. :)

This christmas has been rather quiet... I haven't gone Christmas caroling this year, quite a few have gone overseas to spend their christmas, less hoo ha and decorations etc. Of course, that doesn't matter, it's the CHRIST in christmas that really matters.

On the same sunday, our church had a thanksgiving service and many of the older people from Peace Chapel went up to share. They shared of how thankful they were to the LORD, particularly in how He helped them through their rough times (mostly medical conditions). Their zeal for God, is really admirable.

December will soon be over, and the new year (God willing) to come.
It has been quite hectic these few days and I'm having a sore throat. Aiyo, insufficient rest. The fault lies with myself. :D

Youth thanksgiving dinner coming up.

Konichiiwa!

Kongbawa gozaimaz! (Good evening!)

I'm back from Japan... It was an interesting trip. A real eye-opener to the culture and lifestyle of the Japanese people there. Unfortunately the pics are all in my dad's laptop so maybe I'll post some pictures later on.

Tokyo in general is an extremely busy place. The pace is twice as fast as Singapore. You really feel this when you take their subway. People literally push past you and run towards their train. On the streets it's the same. I feel like I'm in their way all the time. :)

Everything is costly in Japan but the scenery is sergoi neh! (in the countryside at least) Of course, the sashimi there is oishii neh!

Ok, let me try to do a summary of the trip.

[Day 1]

We got lost on our way to the hotel. Yup, day one only and we were lost in a foreign land where English almost seems to be non-existent. Haha... we dragged our luggages along the busy street and asked people for directions and we walked and walked and walked. It was tiring but the people were nice enough to give us directions although it was hard to follow and asking is already difficult. An old lady whom my dad approached in the bookstore wanted to help but because of the language barrier she had to direct us to someone else. In the end, after much asking around, we stumbled upon a shop which seems to specialise in the rental of houses due to all the drawings of houses pasted on their windows. The man there googled/yahooed the location of our hotel and printed the map out for us using the store's printer! That was really helpful. :D Apparently, our hotel was new so many locals don't know about it. Really thank God for helping us find our way there. Taking a taxi costs a bomb in Japan.

The temperature was 12.7 degrees Celsius and the weather was dry unlike humid Singapore.

[Day 2]

We took the subway train for the first time. Taking the subway can be a little confusing at first as there are so many different lines, different exits and then there is the language problem! We always have to look carefully at the map so as to pay the correct fare to purchase the ticket (which is small and I always worry that I'd drop it) and make sure we take the right train and get off at the right stop! :)

We went with the L. family to Ueno park... a lovely spacious park with awesome trees around in their coloured hues. Unfortunately, my camera went out of battery, because I didn't check if it was charged before hand, so I couldn't take many pictures. There was a gingko nut tree there too but raw gingko nuts smell really bad. There was also the Ueno zoo which was more like an aviary combined with a zoo and a reptile park all mixed together. The common house lizard (at least it looked like the common gecko at home) was showcased too, in a heated environment where all like species are housed. Many toddlers and young children were at the zoo with their parents, there was a group of high school students ( I think) at the park for their art lessons... judging from their drawing blocks and pails of water. The young children there are kawaii-neh! The atmosphere feels different from being in the Singapore zoo... firstly, it's not so hot. Next, you are quite close in distance from the animals. Thirdly, there's a lot of walking to do because the animals are placed at quite a distance from each other.

Wow, I can see that my 'summary' is getting a little too long. Well anyway... :D

After that we went to Aeyemeko street which sells more affordable things... something like a pasar malam but in proper stores. We ate a range of food there... delicious!

In the evening, we headed to Takashimaya which had 15 floors. That was when I discovered there was a Kinokuniya mart (like a supermarket) and Kinokuniya bookstore. Well, getting to Kinokuniya bookstore was an experience in itself too. :D

After Takashimaya, we decided to walk back and got lost again walking the wrong direction. In Japan people walk a lot so I think they must be really fit... at the rate they walk, it seems like a walkathon! Thankfully, we met a Taiwanese couple working in Japan ( I think... because they seem to be familiar with the area) and we managed to reach our hotel. Actually, I think we could've taken the subway.... the walking distance seemed longer than 2.4 km and it was nightfall. Good workout anyway. :D

[Day 3]

A trip to Tokyo disney land! Actually, there is a disney sea, but we opted to go to disney land. We took the subway there, the station is Maihama deske. The local people really get into the 'disney' mood, all clad in disney accessories and some...outfits. Disney land is sort of like a zoo to the locals I think... like a place they visit several times. I love the water rides especially there... maybe not so much of space mountain :D it was a thriller though.(my bros went on it thrice!)
We spent the whole day there.

[Day 4]

our sashimi breakfast

We went to Tsukiji market where we had sashimi breakfast with a few other families. The market place is busy! People go about their jobs at top speed... that's how my borrowed boots got stepped on... also partly due to contractions from the cold I think... fortunately Uncle JK managed to help me glue it together later on so I didn't have to walk 'flip-flapping.' :) Back to sashimi... I surprised myself by trying a sea urchin sashimi. It tasted pleasantly sweet, soft and cold. I guess it's something like eating escargots (though I haven't tried) ... just don't think too much about it and put it into your mouth. All the sashimi (mostly different kinds of raw fish) were superb combined with the traditional green tea served.

Later, we visited Harajuku which reminded me of Orchard road in terms of the branded goods sold. There were many foreign labels there. We also went to Shibuya another shopping and food street... there was a Daiso there. If I don't remember wrongly, one of the streets is suppose to cater for the young there, selling more affordable and trendy things.

[Day 5]

my bro peeling an egg boiled in water from the hot springs

The Hakone day trip which was wet and cold weather... we could hardly see the scenery... mountains. Our umbrellas were blown inside out but we did walk to a few shops to eat along the way. One was a hard boiled egg boiled with water from the hot springs. The sign read something like," Eat 7 and get 7 years of longevity." I ate only 2 though... but it was a warm respite from the cold. I think the temperature there was much colder than in Shinjuku (where we resided.) It was at Hakone that we took an electric train, tram, ferry and cable car. All in rainy weather. Brrr... it was cold but the foggy sights were still real nice in all their majesty.
By this day, we were all rather used to taking the subway and Japanese lifestyle. Oh... and they have this cool gadget outside malls for umbrellas where you just push your umbrellas through and your umbrellas are covered properly in its umbrella bag so it doesn't drip rain water all over the floors of the shop/malls. Very efficient and innovative. Japanese spare a thought for every single thing... perfectionists, with everything automatic and geared for convenience. Buildings are close to each other though and living quarters are small... if it were me I may get claustrophobic. :) Well, they have mastered the art of living in confined spaces... extremely organised. An organised clutter I would say. Oh yes, at Hakone was the place where we first saw our own breath in vapourised droplets, white against everything else. I was fascinated. :D

the ferry we took- one of the few ways of transportation we took in Hakone

[Day 6] the view from my parents' room window

We stayed at Manza Onsen, a natural hot springs resort. It's up in the mountains... magnificent and majestic snow-capped. Yes, this was the place I first saw and touched snow. The feeling of seeing all the mountains is not only sergoi-neh! but psychor!(which according to our uncle 导游, a Singaporean who works in Japan... we nick-named him that... is used when you feel 'high.')
The snow was great... on the first day it was nice for making snowballs but the next day, the snow was too soft... freshly fallen I guess. I loved the atmosphere of Manza Onsen... especially the picturesque mountains. Cool, breath-taking, simply amazing. You're practically surrounded by natural trees and mountains. The stillness and peace of it all....so tranquil. I like the country better than the city. :D I didn't go for a dip into the hot springs though... not exactly mentally prepared. There were 6 hot springs I think. My bros and dad went. I still smelt of sulfur though because of the minerals in the natural hot spring water. The kimono outfit we had to wear was really comfy and meals there, fantastic. Most importantly, I was elated at knowing about the ministry of a Christian Japanese who owns this place. They even have free bibles! In a 90% Buddhist society I was encouraged to see this ministry. Go to Manza Onsen if you ever visit Japan. The temperature there was 0 degrees Celsius I think... yet my mum and I walked to the outdoor hot springs in just two layers, our thermals and kimono outfit plus slippers! It didn't feel too cold, surprisingly.

the view from the outdoor hot springs (apparently my mum was focusing on the view so she took it from this angle.)

a lamp post that looks like the one shown in the movie Narnia

[Day 7]

Karuizawa. Temperature: 3 degrees celsius
This is the place where Manza Onsen is located. A staff from Manza Onsen kindly drove us in a bus down to the town area. In town, I felt much colder than in the mountains. Our family walked around Prince shopping plaza which is full of expensive food and clothes etc. It was nice looking though. It was there that I found out there was a 'leftovers' (really named that)shop for some branded goods which sold damaged branded goods at a discounted price... that was interesting.
After walking around, we headed to the train station to catch the bullet train back to the city. Riding a bullet train feels like riding on an airplane. I could feel the air pressure. Seats in the electric and bullet train can swivel around to face each other so that people can talk to one another... cool neh?

At night, we went for a shobu-shobu dinner which consists of raw beef and pork and raw vegetables. It's d.i.y cooking and it's free-flow for 90 mins. I was full way before the 90 mins was up. :)

[Last day]

We spent our last few hours at Isetan and bought our lunch to eat on the way to the airport.
That's all.

-Heh, I took 2 days to type all this... didn't want to at first, but since I started might as well finish it. :D Arigato Gozaimaz for reading this post!

Anyway, I'll never forget this memorable trip.

Anticipation

I can't wait to go to Japan! To experience the cold, the sights, the people, language, shops, parks... everything!!! I'm afraid I've not picked up many basic Japanese words... the only one I know is "Oishii!" So, if I ever get lost, it'll probably be a flurry of frantic arm movements. :)

Simple pleasures

There are really quite a few things to take pleasure in...even the minute things. God has been showing me. :)

Today, I enjoyed the simple pleasures of:
-playing in a quartet
-seeing the Christmas lights from the car with Aunty B.
while driving through Orchard road
-talking to a complete stranger (a Canadian lady while
attending a Beethoven concert)
-enjoying the exhilaration of watching the orchestra play

These little things... make a day a great one. :D

Friday

Had quite a long day today. We met up with the C. family and it was a good time of fellowship and playing with the two little boys. :D On a side note, I realised that 'peek-a-boo' is a timeless enjoyment for babies- they seem to never get tired of it... gurgling with laughter every time. :)

We dropped by my godparents' place and played awhile with Leah, Noah and Ruth. Then, we went to eat a Nepalese restaurant with my grandma and uncle. The food was yummy! It tastes quite similar to Chinese cuisine with a hint of Indian fusion. We also had masala tea.

The pot and chocolate-coloured cups look really unique.

Class 4e3

ReMeMbEr

Full of laughter,
filled with all sorts of people,
caring.
Happy, people.

Crazy times,
wild adventures.

There are the quiet,
the noisy,
the frank.
Despite differences,
all unique.

The right combination of
paints,
ingredients
and timbre
plus
a dash of drama.

Two years together.
Times spent with one another-
countless
through the lessons,
the recesses,
those occasions.

A class of its own
character.
I will treasure
the memories.

Friday

Say "silk" ten times.

My godbrother obediently did just that, counting with his fingers the number of times he said it.

What do cows drink?

"Milk?"

No.

"Poop?"

No, let me tell you, my brother said, thereafter telling him the answer.

He dejectedly and pointedly replied," Why did you tell me the answer when I haven't given up yet?"

His perseverance is really admirable.

CCA camp

Went back to school for 1 day of cca camp yesterday. Now, my muscles are aching crazily...due to lack of regular exercise in the past months. Well, I must say I was shocked with the organisation of the camp and some of the games were not exactly meant to bond the cca- it felt more like an entertainment for the organisers. But on the bright side, there were some really fun games which kept me running and moving about which I enjoyed but which has made me partially 'paralysed.' Haha, I think the main reason was the 'freeze and melt' game, I was the catcher! :D... and it wasn't easy catching... pant... it was rather tiring. And no, I'm NOT old. :D

Had a really good time of fellowship with A, L. and JY. A. shared some really interesting things with us- she's like a walking encyclopedia (very well-read). It also made me think- thought provoking.
I was thinking about what A said, she said that being in a church scares her because she feels forced to be converted and besides, she said she's sure every religion is good. Hmm... it's quite challenging to share the gospel, especially to someone so intelligent and well-versed with knowledge. One other thing she said was something like, no matter how hard a person works, he/she will never get what she wants. I wanted to rebutt: not so, if the person knows how to be content and if the person has God, he/she has nothing more to 'want.'
But I didn't. Maybe God will open up a way next time.

"But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear."
1 Peter 3:15

Tuesday

This is how it looks like almost everyday during this month when it's about to rain. The weather has been lovely... cool and refreshing; natural air-con in the night!

Monday

Had quite a full day today... went to watch a movie with my mum and walked around P.S. I felt a little like a zombie. The mrt train was packed during peak period and we took the wrong train back home. When the announcer said, 'Aljunied,' my mum and I suddenly realised that we had taken the wrong train. The worst part was, I didn't even observe where I was going when we were at Dhoby Gaut Station, just followed. {note to self: improve on orientation-don't be so blur}

Anyway, I managed to complete a page of this:
(I was really fretting over the sewing of "everyday," felt like giving up...:) well, it turned out ok just that my paper is a little crumpled there. sigh.)

The picture is not so clear so the words and details are not exactly visible (have to work on taking clear pictures).

The words are about a poem written by Helen Steiner Rice.

Thank You, God, for little things
that come unexpectedly
To brighten up a dreary day
that dawned so dismally.
Thank You, God, for sending
a happy thought my way
To blot out my depression
on a disappointing day.
Thank You, God, for brushing
the dark clouds from my mind
And leaving only sunshine
and joy of heart behind.
Oh, God, the list is endless
of things to thank You for
But I take them all for granted
and unconsciously ignore
That everything I think or do,
each movement that I make,
Each measured rhythmic heartbeat,
each breath of life I take
Is something You have given me
for which there is no way
For me in all my smallness
to in any way repay.

Eventful

Music- practice, patience, passion (heh, maybe shall adopt this motto?just came to my mind)

Each day is full, packed. The holiday looks set to be busy, in a different way, not in the sense of a pile of homework to be done anymore but just- eventful. Have been scrapbooking, practicing piano, planning for the coming children's Christmas outreach preparations, going out etc.

Actually, I feel exhausted from all the activities. Exhilarated but yup, just 2 days into the holiday and I'm rather tired. Still, nothing beats the holidays.

Friday the 13th

Yay! 'O' levels is finally over! Thank God for seeing me through the whole time. It's amazing how much I've learnt through the 3 wks... like having faith in Him and depending on His wisdom and not on my own strength... really real. Not forgetting how in times when I panicked, he gave peace. Although, I can't say I feel secure for all the papers but I'm glad for the peace God gave me. Isaiah 12:2 was comforting.

Much to think about this holiday and a time when I can finally do what I enjoy doing and to meet up with friends... most importantly to focus on my walk with God. Today, during cell-group we talked about the 'first fruits' that God has given us and what sacrifice we can make in return that may be painful but that honours God, in other words, a sacrifice that is difficult to make. We drew it out. For me, it's mainly time. I find it extremely hard to sacrifice time for others... too much of the 'me' syndrome like studies etc. So, this holiday will be a good time for me to spend more time with others meaningfully and sincerely. Of course, I think it'll be more difficult next year (God willing) but it's a sacrifice worth making.

Besides that, today is supposedly World Kindness Day. I'm not familiar with all the different kinds of "days" celebrated but this was made all the more prominent because we received 2 packets of instant noodles.

There's so many exciting things to look forward to this holiday...

Whoa, this is an extremely long post... well just one more mundane thing. Recently Fred and I have been intrigued with a spider... actually I found it on the wall and asked him to catch it with some insect container thingy. He has been feeding it with bugs during this rainy season and the spider's what he calls 'cannibalistic.' It is quite interesting to watch how the spider forms its web in the container and sleeps in its home. (a special web corner) I don't exactly like watching the spider eat its prey though... it literally pounces!
one of the unfortunate prey who landed on my table

Another random poem

A wonderful mix
of emotions.

Wonderful? maybe.

A time for decision,
a time to relax,
a time to think,
reflect.

There are moments,
so many wishes.

still growing,
still learning,
still being molded.

Exciting times,
trying times,
sorrowful times,
countless musings...

An eclectic mix.

Thanksgiving

We made it through...(we made it through)
because of You.

This was part of the stanza of the song we sang during prayer meeting. Thank God for bringing me through today, for helping me through this hectic, crazy week. :)

Souvenirs from Vienna

Here are some souvenirs from Vienna! I was fascinated with the chocolate, there were three layers! So was my mum :) she took the pictures of each layer. :D

Vienna

My dad is now in Vienna... where Mozart and Haydn spent much of their musical career.
So cool... I guess the place is full of musical history as well... not sure if it was the centre for music last time (must check it out). Although I won't be able to see how Vienna is like for real, one solace is that he's brought my camera along. :)

Was doing math and I'm just amazed (or irritated) by how tedious it all is but it's good for practice anyway... (math enthusiasts may beg to differ- after all math is their passion!)

I thank God for His Strength through this week.

Tuesday

Went back to school for English today. Ha ha, didn't feel like going because I woke up late and felt like sleeping in initially but I'm glad I did... it was beneficial.

When I was walking out towards the canteen, the familiar tune of 'Canon in D' sounded quite sonorously. It struck me as a pleasant surprise and I was wondering how the piano in the canteen could sound so loud. Then, I thought it couldn't be the piano, it might be some CD playing because it suddenly didn't sound like the piano, the timbre was different... the sound was unusually resonant. Well, the mystery was solved when I saw a chamber group on-stage when I walked into the canteen. I watched them for awhile, until they finished their performance. (I think it's some sort of Deepavali celebration as well.) Not bad, I would say. :) There were few violinists... only 2 (J. and a junior I think) The violists were strong and cellos not too bad either. No bass though. Haha... really miss those times where we can play together as an ensemble.

Last day of school

Today is Friday. After the last bio lesson, we started with the graduation program. Actually, it doesn't really feel like graduation really...

Gifts were exchanged and given out by teachers and friends and even the Principal. The graduation service was nice and simple. I feel really blessed to be put in my school and the friends and classmates that God has provided to me. Our form teacher was really nice and creative. We celebrated our birthdays together! She bought the 'London choco roll' and all of us were given a toothpick which we had to stick into a candle and then into the mini roll. Candles were lighted, the birthday song was sung and wishes were made as each small flame was extinguished to smoke.

We had lots of fun uncorking the sparkling juice in the school field and taking pictures. The thing that I'd miss most are my classmates... they are so caring, fun and unique. My deskmate was quite adamant about not wanting to say adieu to school yet...

Indeed, I'll treasure the pleasant memories and the people most of all.

Children's Day

Had practical today. Well, well... well...

I wanted to say that the piano is my worst enemy not my best friend. Or should I substitute that for performance? Well, I've concluded that it is a training ground. (or a battle ground? :D)

I was enjoying the playing but the piano was repelling me. Fingers were slippery. etc. It's hard enough to bring out the sound of a violin. Haha, imagine bringing your own piano! The practice room is deceiving, the piano there is so different and as A said, the acoustics are different.

Although I am disappointed, I do have many things to thank God for. Certainly, I've learnt much through the process and the encouragement (including use of a nice piano) by friends was much treasured. On the brighter side, I can do more violin practice now and Sol is here!

"Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is my salvation."

Piano rehearsal

Ha ha.. had a nervous breakdown again (not such a good sign to precede the actual practical which is coming soon.)

When I came home, I found this prayer on the bookshelf:

Serenity Prayer
God grant me the courage
to change the things I can change.

The serenity to accept those I cannot change.

And the wisdom to know the difference.

It's such an encouraging prayer. Ha ha... He must have placed it there, I've never seen it on the bookshelf before. :)

Over

She sat at her desk. Flipping through and answering the perception question she had yet to complete. For the first time, she thought, that she managed to complete within the time. Then, to her horror, she realised that there was an essay! Raising up her hand, blood rushing up her neck, she told the teacher. The clock tick... it tocked... 5 mins and 5 more by grace. :) still... marks were lost but a lesson well learnt which I'm thankful for.

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are my ways your ways saith the LORD."
Isaiah 55:8

This verse was reiterated twice consecutively during devotions. Perhaps, it's a nudge... :D A good, timely reminder.

Scrapbooking

I yearn... to scrapbook. It's been a drought for very long now. :D Well, it'll have to wait. Meantime, I can only l o o k and a d m i re the work of others. Better than nothing though. :)

Scenic

The scenery outside my window is so picturesque. The sky has many changing faces... although ephemeral, it feels like slipping into some ethereal subconciousness when I drift off in the clouds... I just enjoy watching the colours and the different shapes. God's handiwork is so awesome. :)

Late

Minutes pass,
then seconds.
Suddenly, the miliseconds
seems to have become poignantly important.

Run
run
run.

The lights turn from green to the glaring red.
Panting
sighing
worry
pounds the mind and
the heart beats in quick staccato,
and almost stops
when the familiar three digit number
on the illuminated placard of the vehicle
comes into view.

It zooms past
and feet patter hurriedly,
helplessly
frustratedly,
across
slowing to a discontented stop.

A look at the hands
of the numbered face,
tells of a wait for the next ten minutes.
Agitated.
Praying hard that the next won't be late.

Trust in the LORD

Today, during devotion, the speaker spoke about these two verses.

(Proverbs 3:5) Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

(Proverbs 3:6) In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

I felt really encouraged because with the exams nearing, God has been repeatedly reminding me to have faith and trust in Him. The day before (I think) the song played as a signal for as to make our way to the hall in the morning for assembly was about trusting in God as well.

Also, during music, we were doing compositions and I managed to complete more or less, without adding in all the details yet. When I tried to check if my piece was saved in the program, I couldn't do so, the program just wouldn't open. My heart dropped then... what if I had to redo?
Furthermore when the computer was restarting, there was an error, so my teacher suggested checking my thumbdrive on another computer and shutting the current one. I did so but after 1 minute, decided to try switching it on again. Thank God, it worked and my work was not lost. Faith is not easy but it's vital.

Fever

My temperature was shockingly high yesterday at 38.2 degrees celsius reaching 38.4 degrees celsius. So, I got sent home half an hour into music lesson, along with the sandwich made by my caring teacher. Well, in a way, I think the fever was a hidden blessing from God. I haven't had enough rest lately, due to all the tests and I was panicking to study for the test the next day. So, God is good, I managed to go home earlier and sleep... zzz It was refreshing. :D Now, I think my fever has subsided, thanks to God.

We were suppose to do compositions today but now, it's ms P's turn to fall sick. I wonder is it because of me? :D I hope not but that she will get better soon. One injury and then, now, she's not well.

National Day Celebrations

Wowee...!!! Today was a sea of red and white, with some polka dots, which contributed to a patriotic atmosphere. I didn't wear red or white though as I didn't have any suitable outfit to wear, not even red. We had a 'don't forget the lyrics,' competition and NE quiz for the activities. I was part of the team of people who had to participate (by drawing of lots). Fortunately, for me, there was a lack of time and the songs were almost done, (the last few were for the teachers) so I was 'spared.' :D Joo Ye said I looked so stressed... Well I was... haha.

The singing session was great, we sang song after song in the warm morning sun, enthusiastically waving our plastic flags. Groups of people gathered together to sing, where voices intertwined with a similar 'heartbeat.' It always crescendoed to a resounding climax whenever we reached the chorus of the song. 'One people, one nation, one Singapore!'

Oh yes, our chinese teacher, became a Singaporean! How significant, and she made mention of our class. :D (ok, that's beside the point.) I'm really happy for her. She has worked long in Singapore and is a fantastic teacher.

Right, I'll better be off now... la la la la ... Together Singapore, Singapore!

Meeting up

Meeting up,
laughter,
catching up-the exchange of words
passions intermingle
with the clinking of stainless steel against glass.

S mi le
There is never a dull moment,
as laughter resounds, layer after layer
in pleasant, tinkling echo.

It was great meeting up with Miss T and talking with everyone. :D

Alliteration

I thought of this while waiting for the bus this morning...
It's a wonder, how staring at a blade of grass can lead to this. :D

A green glade of grass, gleaming in the sun( of course there wasn't much sun at that time yet.),
in all it's glory- splendour.

A little red spray-painted body,
covered with miniscule black dots
rests on its surface.

Deciduous dew, drips.
The wind blows
and the little round creature hangs on
for dear life,

undaunted.

( well, the lady bird is ficticious, of course, I didn't see any lady bird on it.) :)

Friday

Well, bio spa is finally over for good. :)

I just entered the world of drama with Joo Ye just now. The whole ambience bursts with the essence of drama. The acting was wonderful and entertaining. I felt that the emotions of the characters were well brought out. Drama is cool. :D It isn't easy of course. I like to watch but not act.

学生须知

Just finished listening comprehension today. The questions were a little tricky. Now, to wait...
I love the 1/2 hr of classical music. That was the best part. :) I was trying hard not to analyse the music... it was so tempting. The piece by Elgar was played as well... lovely lovely!

Today there's suppose to be a total eclipse. Sadly, there was a thunderstorm, the sky was gloomy... there was no observable change. (just like doing some science experiment... haha.) Plus, I had to do an NSW English paper during that time. The paper was extremely, I repeat, EXTREMELY challenging but good. The standard of the paper was excellent, the most difficult of all the NSW papers I've done. There was quite a fair bit of lit incorporated into the questions and the vocabulary was tough. Well, I need to brush up that. Vocabulary has no box big enough to contain it. It's just, too diverse, too wide.

Many things

The coming week is going to be a hectic one. I have to concentrate on my composition for music. It's quite like lit, I realise. A lot of anlaysing is required... mood, texture, sounds have to be thought of carefully and thought of in a big picture. It's thinking in a big picture that is hard for me. Well, I have to start from somewhere. This week I have to listen to many songs. Haha, just learning through listening and relaxing at the same time. 2 in 1 . Great subject, tough to master.

Oh yes, I've decided to explore the field of linguistics. It seems really interesting, useful and applies to many areas of work.

Weary, weary, weary. = =

Composition

No, it's not English. It's piecing rhythm, melody, texture and harmonising them. The problem for me is, when I've thought of a nice melody, I've trouble notating it and worse still, I'm adamant on not changing it because I like it. :) Oh well, I still have to compose the accompaniment for the voice.

Oh yes, we tried using the Sibelius program during music lesson. It was extremely troublesome as the program is rather smart. However, I think using the program will probably make your composition look more presentable. I hope that I can get the hang of using it by the time we have to compose the actual one.

Going to have my last violin lesson next week. It'll be a while before I can concentrate fully on brushing up my violin techniques.

The innocent voices

Today, I went out with my godparents and god siblings, Leah, Noah and Ruth. The original plan was to go swimming but that was not to be as the sky wasn't friendly today. So, we went to Borders and then ate at Manhattan's fish market, having ice-cream at Swensen's thereafter. It was great being with Leah, Noah and Ruth. Just enjoying their company and playing their games, talking and laughing, folding paper boats, singing... :)

On the way back, in the car, Leah, Noah, my brothers and Ruth... yes Ruth,( though she's only 3 I think) sang the songs they learnt at the recent children's camp held in June. Here's how it sounded.
Though not the most perfect of choirs, or musically in tune, it was a chorus of heart warming voices.

A chorus of voices
singing
in childish, fervent fervour,
in all simplicity.

Their heart-warming
tender voices
so sincere
so full
in the special harmony.

They sing
with joy
and all the air
their lungs can hold.

One can feel
the earnest, simple touch
to their melody

A chorus of voices,
so innocently,
sweetly
angel-like.

Solely, a child's.
That special tone.
Unforgettable.

It was great hearing them sing.

The Rain

The torrent,
water

p i t t er pa t t er.

it drips,
drops,
then pours.

It pours.
Then it stops, it stops.
The last puddles linger
to slowly evaporate.
The storm has calmed
and a rainbow has emerged
among the clouds.

Back to school

Well, it's the first day of school and it was quite ok. We changed our seating arrangements and I ended up seating exactly where I seated the during the first term. I was actually rather nervous about the bio test but it's being postponed to this Friday. Chinese oral is also this Friday. My fingers have been itching to do an LO which I've laid off for very long now. Our form teacher also gave us crackers in wrappers that made the crackers look like little traditional Japanese men and women. It's so cute. It's really nice of her to buy this for the class. :) Also, I had this lit assignment today which I think I screwed up. Besides being a tad bit pressurized by seeing fast scribbling almost after 5 min, I think my mind was reacting too slowly. Anyway, the passage was rather interesting to analyse and the 3 periods of EH flew by (surprisingly).

Ok, better go.

Poems

Went to Kinokuniya today and read a book that inspired me to write poems. Ok, language really intrigues me. Oh yes, I met my poa teacher on the bus, which reminds me it's back to school soon. It's going to be a roller coaster. By God's grace and strength, I'll be able to hold on tight.

Books

Father Brown definitely beats Sherlock Holmes although Sherlock Holmes originated first. :D I love the way G.K Chesterton writes. So detailed and animated. He paints each character and makes them vividly alive in your imagination. The first two stories have already glued my eyes to the book. I think authors are smart to be able to craft such stories. For me, it's like watching a movie through imagination. Actually, books are better than watching movies, as they're more detailed.
Words, language... beats math any day.

Guavas

I was cutting guavas for my sunday school at 11 something, close to 12 am. It sure isn't easy. First, you have to peel the skin off the guavas, next you have to deseed it and lastly you have to slice it thinly. It was difficult to slice thinly, mainly because I was afraid of slicing my fingers off. Next, was the lemon juice. I love the smell of lemon, the zesty smell is refreshing. Lastly, I had to mix the sliced guavas with lemon juice with my hands and then place it in the fridge to marinate (to soak in the juice). I've never cut guavas before, only apples and oranges usually, as my mum has recently been using this receipe to do the guavas. It tastes really good and looks easy to prepare but it actually isn't.

Poem

A friend sent me an e-mail for some competition in poetry titled,"Spring." I don't think I am qualified or what I think are poems are even considered poems but I'll give it a try.(without submitting of course.)

Spring

A pastel coloured palette
of various types of flowers.
The wind blows,
singing its cheerful melody
as the flowers nodding,
sway in harmony.

Behold, it delights.
It pleases.
It's the subject of photography.
Children run,
smiles intertwined with budding flowers,
as their backs are warmed by the yellow rays
of the spring's sun.

It's my favourite season,
although it's summer all year round here.
It remains as part of a refreshing thought,
a visualisation that I've not yet experienced.

Birds twitter and chatter incessantly,
calling out a random tune,
to welcome spring.
Spring as the great Creator has made.

Stamps

Went with my mum to shop today. Bought stamps. Yay! :) I especially like the dutch lady one. It reminds me of the wooden doll I used to play with when I was younger. The one that you open and open to reveal exact replicas in a crescendo of sizes. From the biggest to the smallest. A decrescendo rather. The weather is extremely humid today but when I stepped inside the shopping mall, it was freezing cold! ... in fact it felt like winter, the air-conditioner must have been at full blast. Also, there weren't many people as it's a week day so maybe the lack of people is part of the reason why it was so cold.

Sunset

Finally. I've managed to upload this. I love sunsets. This is one I captured quite a long time ago. The soft muted colours orange, red and blue in a blend is really beautiful. God's art. :D

Camp

I went and I'm back from camp in just a day. Our teacher just came back from a newly classified H1N1 country (Japan) so she had to be self-quarantined for 7 days. Since there were no teachers, we could not stay over. The news was quite sudden and unexpected. I think not only the campers were disappointed but also those who planned the camp. Thank God that we were still able to carry out 1 day of camp. Personally, I felt the camp was extremely well-organised and packed to the brim with activities. My mum took one look at the planned itinery and remarked that the camp required lots of energy. :D Oh well, day 1, the only day, was already packed enough, partly also because they had to push some of the major activities forward like 'Amazing Race.'

The games we played: (let me try and recall... there were so many!)

- whacko
- To be or 'knot' to be
- Forming words with our bodies
- Shoe game ( We were supposed to throw all our shoes in a pile in the middle of the room and
find for our shoes in the fastest possible time)
- 2 truths and 1 lie ( more for getting to know about everyone...Lynn's idea)
- musical chairs ( this was really amusing as even though the music was playing, everyone was moving as if it were a funeral.)
- pass the polo sweet
-pass the parcel
- Amazing Race: our team didn't manage to complete all the stations, so I can only recount 6.

1. Filling up two cups with salt water with just straws at a distance. So we had to run here and there. In the end, everyone resorted to desperate measures... drinking the salt water! Urghh (it was so salty!)

2. Drinking a big bottle of water in the fastest possible time. ( Actually, I quite enjoyed this station as I could quench my thirst after all the salt and running. )

3. Cracking raw eggs with our chins. ( I did this and my chin still feels a little sore. It was definitely a first for me. I cracked 5 eggs. Real messy. :) )

4. Melting a block of ice with our bare hands.

5. Naming all the countries you can think of from A-Z.

6. Whoops, can't remember...

Anyway, the game was made all the more exciting by the balloons we were given at each station. Sausage shaped and colourful they were. We were supposed to protect our balloons from any team who threatened to burst our balloons. This caused quite a few contentions and everyone ended up striking deals like, "You don't burst our balloons, we won't burst yours." :D As you can see, it was rather desperate. :)

I feel that even though the camp was only held for a day, it was enough to get to know the sec 1s better and for everyone to bond. Yup, it was good and fun.

Peace chapel

During the message on Sunday, I learnt more about how one should honour one's parents. Actually, I felt that the message was directed towards the younger people as it was supposed to be a message for the elderly. The speaker talked about how more and more children neglected their parents and sent them to nursing homes. In a recent survey, 33% of the young said that they would not look after their parents. I feel that that's quite shocking. In SS, we learnt about the tribunal for the maintenance of parents where they can take legal action against their children by bringing the case to court if their children are not giving them financial aid. Apparently, there is a revision to this law as many aged parents do not wish to report it to the court so now, a third party is allowed to help them. The sad thing is that, now, even a law has to be made to ensure that children take care of their parents. Shouldn't that be the natural responsibility of the children and not one enforced by the law?

Oh, yes, today I witnessed something on the mrt which was horrendously unhygenic. I saw a person using his standard ticket card to pick the dirt from his nails, previously pressed against his nose. After that, he proceeded to dig his nose. I was HORRIFIED. It makes me think twice about whether I would use a standard ticket next time. Who knows what it has been used for?
Urghh!!!

There's cca camp tommorrow. I'm excited but yet a little apprehensive as I 'm not sure what's the programme lined up like. Oh well, I'll know tommorrow. I hope there are no pranks or what not. Although I highly suspect there will be. Nevermind, it'll still be a great time to bond with the rest of the cca.

Gathering

It was nice meeting up with the extended family today at the chalet. The view was excellent there. Sea view. The sky was rather gloomy and the wind was lovely. Anyway, I saw lightning that flashed horizontally across the sky. That was cool as I usually see it flash vertically, in a zig-zag formation.

I smell of smoke now. Barbecuing is actually quite a new experience for me. It requires lots of patience and experience in knowing how long it takes to cook like seafood and the like. Had a good time chatting and laughing. It's the first time I saw my cousins during the year and not just during Chinese New Year. Yup, gatherings should be held at least once during the year. It doesn't feel so distant that way as I hardly seem to know my cousins at all, hardly talk to them in fact.

CCA camp is coming up this Tuesday. I wonder what J has in store for the camp? Well, as long as it bonds the CCA better, that will be the best.

Right, better knock off now.

Music

Today is the end of the 2 weeks of school... with 2 more weeks left of holiday or (studying and homework). It was rather long today. Time passed really, really slowly. It crawled...
I almost couldn't stay awake during bio. Thankfully, we were dismissed half an hour earlier, otherwise it would have been 2 hrs of bio straight.

I'm so frustrated that I'm having problems with hearing chords because I'm not perfect pitch. Sigh. It's so important, yet I don't have it. Well, God will provide a way. Joo Ye told me that she just received a free violin and God answered her prayers. I was really happy for her as well as her faith in God as she put her trust in Him and He answered her. Cool right? Even a simple request like that, God knows. He hears.

Did a recording of the duet with my brother yesterday. It was hilarious, especially with my burst of laughter half way through. Oh well, there's still room for improvement. My teacher's been telling me that my touch on the keys is too gentle. Ha ha, I guess I must not worry too much about the notes otherwise I would not get the mood and texture right. Not too heavy, not too light, take note of slurs... Mozart is sure meticulous. I like the power in Beethoven's music but I doubt I have the ability to play his music though I have never played his music before. I would like to try though.

Ok, that's about all for now.

Mutterings

Today I ended early, went off at recess as there was FAPD for the next 3 hrs. The weather has been so humid recently and I've retired to artificial cool air from the air conditioner. We did lots of Math today and I was really frustrated as I was rather slow in doing the assignment. I think for math, the gears in my brain need to be well oiled with the basics and understanding so that I can move faster.

The June hols is going to be really busy for me. Still, I prefer the "holiday" environment, it's more relaxed than usual school days. I've to try and figure out the chords to my composition. The melody is more or less fine but it's tone is so different from all the other ones that I've tried composing that I find it difficult. Well, with God, nothing is impossible!

I love Lina Sandall's hymn taken from the book, "Great hymn writers." I think it's just one stanza of it though.

Day by day
and with each passing moment
strength I find
to meet my trials here
Trusting in my Father's wise bestowment,
I've nothing for worry or for fear.

Lit Workshop

The Lit workshop was a blast. :) TKAB was really brought ALIVE. We did many activities and acted out certain scenes and play rolled the humorous scenes of Jem and Scout. It was cool and the drama was so funny. :D Everyone acted so well. 2 of the drama girls acted out a scene and put on a southern American accent suited to the "ain't" etc.etc. It was hilarious. I also learnt much more about the characters in detail, especially about Aunt Alexandra. She went from being "cold and there," to become a completely changed person who cared more and thought less about status. I wish every lit lesson could come as alive as through this workshop. The speaker, a lady from England, Julia Goldsworthy was really good. It seems like she practically memorised the whole book as she was quoting off hand for almost the entire thing. It's like a lit essay in person. The 6hrs was spent well and it was fruitful.

Service

Right now, I think my oxygen debt has been fully repaid and the lactic acid has gone. I can play the piano without feeling so much strain in the muscles of my right hand. The graze on my palm is healing too. Thank God for that. The skin is so amazing, its self-healing properties are awesome. Well, God programmed our bodies this way and He's so smart. My skin is now in the midst of repairing itself. Ha ha, before that, I think clotting took place to prevent bacteria, excessive loss of blood etc. etc. from happening. So cool. Ok, the fact that I can see clotting is interesting but not the gross part.

Last Sunday, I helped out in the Chinese worship service with Val. Their worship is so heart-felt and sincere, you can feel it in the atmosphere. I love the songs too. It's great helping and trains me in my improvisation as well so I'm not so "note-dependent."

"Everyone stop!!!," my godsister Leah yelled to make herself clear. It was the first time in my life that I had been a referee in a "freeze & melt" game. Everyone came. With all the authority she could muster she chided a person for "pausing" the game just to escape being tapped ("frozen.") She called on a ban to pause the game and then dismissed them to continue the game.
Well, now, I think having referees in simple games like this are good and furthermore, it was intitiated by Leah. Haha, I wasn't one of the players as I was too lazy to run. I tagged along as her assistant referree. :D

Tommorrow there's a whole day of literature. I wonder what we would be doing, I hope that it'll be fun. TKAB, here I come.

Professional Guidance Day

Everyone dressed formally today, so formal that it scared me. Working people attending school. Ha ha...Well, it was definitely interesting to see the various dressing styles. Rather amusing and quite fun actually. :) I went to hear the talk on counselling and psychology. I realised that counseling requires a lot of patience and one must have the passion to serve the community. Listening to the teacher relating her day's work was and eye-opener for me. Some cases seemed difficult to handle. Not only do you have to sacrifice your time but you need to have lots of care and of course, keep yourself healthy in body and spirit as well. After all, counseling is about helping people but I think it can be draining if you fully immerse yourself into the mood of the patients. Just like the teacher said, "of course sometimes when the person cries, you can empathise by crying along with them but don't cry until you feel absolutely down."

Psychology was quite interesting too but I think I won't venture into educational psychology. The lady professional did a write-up on "Multiple Intelligence" by some Garnard person. (don't know if I spelt it correctly) In his theory, everyone has different strengths: kinesthetic, spatial, etc. (there are 8 in total but I can't remember.)

We also did a reflection and watched a video capturing the pictures of the past activities. It was nice to reminiscence. The people are what makes the school such an enjoyable environment to be in.

Time flies. Soon it will be time to bid adieu.

Updates

Just had a badminton workout with Marisa just now. My right arm is starting to ache, what more, I have piano lesson tomorrow, hope that I can play properly. Well, it was just 1 hour of badminton and I was so tired. Ha ha... that shows my stamina isn't very good. The badminton session was good though but Marisa's shots are really high and her backhand is really strong. Considering that I haven't been playing badminton in a few months, I glad that I still have the stamina to last for an h0ur. I think I should exercise more often. Does my lazy bones good.

Today we had school as usual and an extended MT intensive. Now its 口 试 and 听力 practice. Everyone is trying to speak in Chinese now and it's really funny and amusing. It's hard to express what you want to say in Chinese though, as my vocabulary is quite limited.

Yesterday, my poa teacher made an interesting remark at the end of the lesson, she told us," I want to see more M.O.S burgers." That stunned us for a moment as we had no inkling as to what she meant. Then she said I want to see more Moments Of Success. I thought that was a cool acronym.

I've just finished reading this book which I can classify as an unputdownable. ( a term I saw in a comment from another book) The language is absolutely descriptive and I wish I could write like the author. Impressive. It captures you into the world of the story, sustaining the tension and suspense throughout such that you keep wanting to find out and wanting to know what will happen.

Language
so mysterious
so vast
to be used
to be crafted
by the writer.

To be mastered
it really can be
a needed tool.

So many ways
to express it's various words
So complex
yet simple
Simply awesome.

Part 1 - Ended.

我真的不知道我要笑还是哭。My Chinese paper today was ok. I chose the 建议类 公函 and 报章报道。But, I made such a silly silly mistake. For paper 2, our answer sheet was folded like a magazine booklet and I wrote my answers on the wrong questions!!! At that moment, my heart dropped because I had already answered 3 whole questions and I had no space to redo it properly. I still had time though and I decided to just cancel the written questions to the correct questions in order to save time. I'm worried that I'll be marked down though. Ahhh!!! But I thank God for helping me keep a clear mind and for providing lovely friends like Marisa, Xin Xuan and Joo Ye who comforted me and also that I was able to finish the paper.

Now, I have to work on Part 2- 多说多听。

Oh yes, I love this hymn, not just the music but its meaning.

All to Jesus I surrenderRemove Formatting from selection
All to Him I freely give
I will ever love and trust Him
In His presence daily live

Chorus:
 surrender all, I surrender all
All to Thee, my blessed Saviour
I surrender all

All to Jesus I surrender
Make me, Saviour,wholly Thine
Let me feel the Holy Spirit
Truly know that Thou art mine

All to Jesus I surrender
Lord I give myself to Thee
Fill me with Thy love and power
Let Thy blessing fall on me

Mostly, hymns are in the strophic form but I love the meaning in hymns.

Chinese

Chinese,
a language of my race,
at which I'm slowly learning to appreciate.
It is actually rather fascinating
and my reluctance has slowly changed
to an eagerness
to learn more
to read more.
I'm proud to be a Chinese.

Cycling, Casualty, Czech

Went to East Coast Park on Saturday for cycling. It was really nice to just cycle and relax. It really is good to get out in the sun for a while and feel the wind. I love it. All was well until I collided into my brother in the last 10 min before we returned our bicycles. My right palm, right knee and right elbow was grazed. It was quite sudden and I think I felt like I was thrown out of the bicycle. My brother suffered no injuries. Surprisingly though I didn't feel any pain until around 5 seconds later when I could feel the burning pain. (Probably my nervous system hasn't reacted yet.) So now, I'm relying on my left hand a lot. I realise that when you "lose" something, you treasure it even more. With the graze on my right hand, I realise how important the hands are. Thank God I didn't graze my fingers, otherwise I would have a lot of difficulty writing for the Chinese paper this Monday.

And since we were in the east, we popped into the violin shops and I tried out the violins. I took a looooong time. Finally, I decided on a Czech made violin. I'm happy with it. Now, I've got to season it.

A Long Day

This morning, I wanted to sing the National Anthem and say the pledge...but I couldn't. My voice sounds totally nasal now. Then, I tried but decided to just sing and say in my heart while mouthing the words. The packet of tissue I brought today is still untouched. I think it's all clogged up in my lungs?(Ha ha, I really have to revise bio.)

Professional Guidance Day. That actually sounds interesting. We are suppose to dress up as "professionals" while seeking the advice of real professionals of their fields, like a dentist, for example. Well, I haven't really decided what I want to do yet but am still praying about it. I'm not interested in the mathematics and science fields of career though, more towards language or music.

Chinese was the usual today. The usual dose of compos. I definitely have to improve on my timing. It's too slow. Compos require a lot of thought. As one of my classmates said, the workload seems like killing your brain cells. But I'm still thankful for the practice and though I've a pile of weekend Chinese homework to complete I'm actually surprised to say that I'm grateful for it.

Violins are lovely but violin shopping is hmm... quite difficult and tiring. I consulted several people on how to choose a good violin and researched. How violins are made is just... amazing. So much effort goes to producing a violin. Furthermore, each violin posseses its own unique voice. How cool. I haven't visited Synwin nor Gramercy yet. Hopefully I'll be able to choose a violin soon. One that fits the budget, has good tone quality, loud enough and has a sound which I like.

I really really feel like typing in Chinese but I don't know how to go about doing it. Maybe I should ask my brothers.

Have seen many layouts in the gallery recently which inspired me to do a layout which I've been delaying due to Chinese Intensive. Hope to be able to do it soon.

Thursday, 21 May 2009

Second Post

Feels nice typing although I've been used to writing.

Chinese Intensive has been really intense! Writing and writing... It's actually really good practice. With such intensity, I try hard to concentrate. Furthermore, I've the flu now. I think it's the post-exam fatigue. Funny though. I've actually been surrounded by people who have the flu but didn't catch it. I thought my immune system was really good then. But now...:D
At least the faulty faucet's been stopped for now. Thank God for that. Otherwise I would be using at least 3 packets of tissues.

Right, have to practice piano now. Hope Mozart's fine.

First Post

Hello, this is my very very 1st post!
